In scouting, the fleur de lis with the rope around it is the most recognizeable symbol the world over.
I wanted a nice one to have ontop of a flagpole, which can be carried along to camp sites etc. So i designed one in 3D.
It got quite big, to big for my 20x20x20cm printing volume, so i split it in 3 parts. 2 of those parts are the actual fleur de lis and 1 part is the collet for the top of the pole.
All the parts are connected by using an M5 threaded rod all the way through it. No need to cut threads in the parts, just let the rod cut its own thread.
The total length of the rod is the height of the fleur de lis minus 1 cm, plus the height of the top of the collet, and then ofcourse added to it the depth of the hole in the pole.
The threading in the pole can be done in several ways, depending on the material of the pole. If it is steel, you can just drill and thread an M5 hole in it.
In some cases a helicoil can be used, or even a so called 'rampa nut' (specially in wood).
The round collet is designed so you can fit it around several sized of poles. the minimum size is 30mm diameter, the maximum is 38mm. You can trim the inside points of the collet to fit the flagpole.
You can also just not use that part, but i kindof liked having it and have the text on it.
Last thing do to after printing: sand and paint it! I made mine bronze looking by first making sure all surfaces are as smooth as i can make them, then prime it with 2 layers and last paint it with 4 layers of bronze looking paint.
Ontop of that, just to make sure it is a bit resistent to scratches, i added 2 topcoats of high impact clear paint (available at a lot of car paint shops).
